Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, various myth-like questions and assumptions have been made: Did the virus originate from wild animals? Is it possible for the virus to be transmitted through cargo? Are our pets capable of transmitting the virus? No matter whether the assumptions made are verified to be true or not, apparently there seems to be a deep relation between animals and infectious diseases.

Even though our official English name is Zoonosis, One Health, we would still like to explain a little about our official Chinese name, “Mr Zhu, Mr Wan” （朱先生、萬先生）

Both Zhu and Wan
Mr Zhu: it originates from the prefix of Zoonosis, which is Zoo (through the similar pronunciation), also known as zoonotic disease, referring to the disease that is transmitted between humans and animals.

Mr Wan:it originates from the word One Health’s “One” (through the similar pronunciation as well), which represents animals, humans and the environment. The interconnection between these three is of significant importance.

Zoonosis, One Health is a platform that was constituted as a result of a professor’s idea, with the intention of minimizing the damage and misunderstandings caused by unverified false information. He anticipated us, veterinary students to use our abilities to integrate different literatures and sources to convey the most accurate information that has been reviewed by professors to the public.

We are a team of veterinary students, with the objective of using our current position to contribute to the society by helping the public to understand the relationship between infectious disease and animals thus educating people with the correct knowledge regarding zoonotic diseases. In addition, we would also wish to disseminate the interconnection between animals, humans and the environment, that these three are actually inseparable from each other, with the hope of improving the current relationship between humans and animals as well as reducing misinformation etc, enhancing human health and animal welfare.
